THE STUPID LOSER SELLING SHOE FROM HIS CAR

There’s a guy I heard about. He sold shoes out of the trunk of his car on weekends. He was doing this in his 30s. Apparently thinking he’d be able to eventually make a business out of this idea.

Can you imagine? What if this guy wanted to date you, or your sister? Whoa! Not! Get a clue dude.

Well, as it turns out, the guy had some decent ideas. He actually eventually did start making enough to quit his day job and sell shoes full time. What a dream, ‘eh? Put that one on your resume.

This was going great until one day, the company he was selling shoes for told him to beat it. They weren’t going to let him sell their shoes anymore. Now is about the time to call it quits. It wasn’t meant to be. Right?

But guess what this goofball did? He decides he’s going to make shoes. LOL.

His bank demanded he pay his loan back in full (which he can’t afford), he has no product to sell (that’d be pretty handy). But he’s going to go ahead and become a shoe manufacturer. Will someone please let this guy know the game is over?

What would you tell a friend who was doing this? Would you loan him some money? Invest in his crazy shoe making idea? Would you be a good friend and talk him down from loony tunes mountain?

We all have our ideas of how these stories play out. How crazy someone is to be fighting against almost certain failure.

Well, the guy is Phil Knight. The company is known today as Nike. You may have heard of them. It turns out, that he had a pretty good idea. He found someone to let him borrow money, and someone to make his shoes. And the rest is obviously history.

Next time you start thinking someone’s else’s idea is crazy, remember this story.
